Yes. I like this idea. 

We could do the same and add a --with-gdal option to the WMS provider,
etc...

I vote to extend this concept.
I'm going to add --with-boost option to ./configure script so user
will be able to select his own existing of Boost installation.
If no --with-boost option is provided, Thirdparty's Boost will be used.

Do you also like this idea?
