I think I agree with this. The number of users of the PostGIS provider
are still relatively small, and changing this now would leave less odd
stuff for future maintainers to deal with. If someone has a large
deployment, writing a PHP script to update the MapGuide repository with
the changes wouldn't be that hard.
Bruno, is it likely that the provider will still compile against 3.2.x
after the changes you're doing, or are you using new features (like the
expression engine?) that might make this not possible?

Why don't you just drop the ~ stuff altogether.
People may have to recreate their MapGuide layers after this, but the
code would be less complex. If it's well documented in the release
notes, it wouldn't be a problem.
