[fdo-internals] RE: FDO 3.6.0 Beta

I wouldn't mind having this release go out on the following platforms.

Windows (32/64 bit) - Not sure we need to differentiate between Server 2003/Server 2008/XP/Windows7.
RedHat Enterprise Linux 5 (32 bit)
Ubuntu 10.04 LTS (32 bit)

64-bit Ubuntu is a nice to have, but I am not sure how much work would be involved.

Ok. This shouldn't be too difficult then. What platforms are we supporting for 3.6?

Current

Windows Server 2003 R2 (32/64 bit)
Windows Server 2008 R2 (32/64 bit)
RedHat Enterprise Linux 5 (32 bit)

Future?

RedHat Enterprise Linux 5 (64 bit)
RedHat Enterprise Linux 6 (32/64 bit)
Ubuntu 10.04 LTS (32/64 bit)

According to this article, RedHat Enterprise Linux 6 is being targeted for the end of the year
http://itmanagement.earthweb.com/osrc/article.php/3890866/Red-Hat-Enterprise-Linux-6-Hits-Beta-2-Targeting-Year-End-Release.htm

And Ubuntu released 10.04 LTS a few months ago. This is a "long term" release with a 5 year lifecycle.
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Server/TechSpecs/1004LTS

Ubuntu 10.04 and RHEL 6 Beta 2 are both based on GCC 4.4.4.

Note: The OSGeo LiveDVD is currently based on Ubuntu 10.04. Native compilation would solve a lot of library dependency issues. MapGuide and FDO are on the LiveDVD.

I would love to support all of the above but we are looking at seven build machines to support it. This will definitely need to be a community effort. Realistically, I think we will also need to move to an automated build procedure. Cruise Control (http://cruisecontrol.sourceforge.net/) or BuildBot (http://buildbot.net/trac) may be appropriate for automation.

On the plus side, we should be able to use the same build machines to build both FDO and MapGuide.

Regards,
Trevor

The VS 9 solution files still remain those used to perform the builds.

Just checking. I know Autodesk was interested in Visual Studio 2010 support for MapGuide a while ago http://trac.osgeo.org/mapguide/wiki/MapGuideRfc104.

I imagine they would be identical as 3.5.0. I have not heard anyone ask for a change, although I am open to discussing the idea.

Hi Greg,

I haven't started looking at it yet. What platforms and compilers are we using for 3.6.0 Beta1? We may be able to use the same build machines we used for 3.5.0.

Regards,
Trevor

Hi Trevor,

I am thinking of pushing out a 3.6.0 Beta1 sometime soon. How is your FDO 3.6.0 build processes looking?
