[fdo-users] PostGIS Provider

Nice article!
My French isn't good enough to be sure that none of the "Quelques remarques" are things that we don't already know about. Could you translate this for me please? "La version actuelle ne semble pas supporter l'édition des données (ni alphanumérique, ni géographique). Mais il est bien prévu que la version finale le supporte."
Regarding VACUUM ANALYSE, yes it's true that if you have auto vacuum turned on you don't need to run this, but the advice that I've been given is to disable auto vacuum on production databases, and instead schedule it for off hours, similar to index rebuilds.
Finally, this provider was developed as a joint project between Refractions Research and the City of Nanaimo. And I'm sure that with all of the extra time that Mateusz has put into this, he's an additional partner as well as the author :)

Hi all,
To follow up: I have uploaded a new build of the provider and linked to it from the wiki page.
http://trac.osgeo.org/fdo/wiki/FdoPostGISNotes
This version fixes some problems with unique cursor names and spatial filters. It should also fix the problem that Chuck was having with insertion of geometries via Map 3D.
Additional testing of this provider and feedback is quite welcome.
Current tickets and instructions for adding new tickets are available on the wiki page above.
Jason

Hi Gwenael,
Any of the builds posted on my site are not currently usable. I'm hoping to have one up that works a bit better later today.
I am not entirely against posting on the download.osgeo.org site, but it's a lot easier for me to just put them on my site for now, until we have a version that is working.
If you introduce it as something that is under development, perhaps pointing them to this location would be better:
http://trac.osgeo.org/fdo/wiki/FdoPostGISNotes
I'll add a download link to my site there, and we can move it over to the osgeo site when we start putting the builds up there.
If anyone has suggestions for additions to that page, please let me know.
Thanks,
Jason

Subject: [fdo-users] PostGIS Provider
Hello,
Before asking anything, I would like to introduce myself. I work for Autodesk, as Geospatial Technical Specialist (pre sales) for France.
I am not a developer, although I have done some C/C++/Java/asm x86 and DSP 56x in previous jobs... let's say I am an advanced user.
I am also involved and active in the project of an OSGeo french local chapter. I have been elected at the FR board, as Organization Committee leader.
We aim at being an official local chapter soon (for sure before the end of the year). You can find more infos (in french :-) on the project of an OSGeo french local chapter at :
http://wiki.osgeo.org/index.php/Francophone
I have been a "passive" reader for months.
I would like to discuss on the native FDO PostGIS provider developed by Mateusz Loskot.
I know there are binaries for release 3171 (april 2007), and also other binaries provided recently by Jason Birch recently.
I tested these binaries on Map 3D 2008. I installed the VC++ package, and add the postgres needed DLLs (found thanks to Depends) to FDO\Bin.
Read works and I can check out features. But when I try to check in modified features, Map 3D crashes.
My understanding is that the PostGIS provider is an ongoing development.
But I would like to know if writing (updating geometries and attributes) is in the scope ?
Finally, I write an official Autodesk blog (again in French :-) at http://blogs.autodesk.com/geospatialfrance, and would like to post on this native provider.
There is a lot of interest for PostGIS in France, and there could be some more testers after such a post.
Is it too early to post on this provider ?
Regards
Gwenael
