Keep in mind I'm not a lawyer.  From the license agreement...

3.2.6     Modifications.  You may not modify, translate, adapt, arrange, or create derivative works based on the Autodesk Materials for any purpose.

I would consult with someone from Adesk to find out how FDO applies to the above section of the license agreement.  Maybe one of the Adeskers can chime in here.

Keeping a copy of the FDO folder constitutes no legal or technical difficulties.
FDO is open source and there is no technical difficulty. When you open autocad map it reads the FDO directory to load the data providers listed in the providers list.

I don't think you can do that.  Both technical and legal issues come to mind.

I am sure that someone more qualified will respond with the exact version capabilities. My response is; always keep a copy of the existing in another location in the case you need to go back to it.
