Greg,

I have reviewed the GetNullPixelValue() documentation and I am 
still not clear on what I am supposed to do when there is no 
nodata value.  Should I return a NULL pointer from the function?

On review of what you have written, I am now suspecting the
problem you are indicating is that the .xml config file override
for the null data value is being ignored.  Is this the crux of this
bug report?
