[FOSS-GPS] Provision of Global Map

Hello to everyone,

I would like to plot the position of some stations in a global map, for a research I am currently conducting. I would like to know if anyone of you has any global map (empty by preference) in shapefile format, in order to use it either in open-source software (e.g. QGIS) or even in commercial.
