[FOSS4G-Oceania] Conference Presenters and their Attendance

It's not usual for FOSS4G events to offer discounted tickets for speakers
(I'm not aware of the SotM situation). A quick scan of the last few
international FOSS4G conferences here:
- FOSS4G Boston, 2017 (http://2017.foss4g.org/register/) - no apparent
discount for speakers
- FOSS4G Bonn, 2016 (http://2016.foss4g.org/registration.html#register)
- discount for workshop leaders, but not for speakers
- FOSS4G Seoul, 2015 (http://2015.foss4g.org/attending/registration/)
- no apparent discount for speakers
- FOSS4G Nottingham, 2013 (
http://2013.foss4g.org/information-for-presenters/index.html) -
explicitly stated '*Presenters must purchase a conference pass if they
wish to attend the rest of the conference in addition to their own session*
'
So, we're in good company with our previous decision to not extend
discounts to speakers. I think the statement suggested at the beginning of
this thread is a nice way to explain the situation to them. If the
phrase '*minimal
distinction between presenters and attendees*' isn't quite right, perhaps
another suggestion?
I would be surprised if many speakers opted not to register, hopefully I'm
not being naive - but I suppose it's their prerogative. If they don't want
to register, I think welcoming them to the [coffee break/lunch/whatever]
immediately following their session is a nice gesture, and they'd likely
take it up as an opportunity to connect with the people who have just heard
them speak.
