Thanks Karryn,
<Distance issue. All preferred accommodation is within walking distance

1. This information on hotels is fantastic and necessary. To the rest
of the LOC 1 take it someone is coming up with a map of where everything
is i.e. accommodation with respect to ICC and the rest of what needs to
be shown where possible? Should 1 assume this is not in marketing?
2. Web pages... perhaps we definitely do need an accommodation a page
that will have links to People SA that will give some extra pertinent
info as provided by Karryn below?? Guess LOC can advise especially those
who felt to have info on webpage would be duplication.
3. Anyone with some nice Cape Town pics .. faces and places etc for the
website and marketing material ... please send them though.
Thanks
Regards

Hi Daina ,
Distance issue. All preferred accommodation is within walking distance
of
CTICC. (5 - 7 minutes)
The back up option of the further out hotels that we have sourced are
approximately a fifteen minute drive away. The delegate would need to
organise transport daily to and from the CTICC.(or PeopleSA can arrange
at
an extra cost) It is more cost effective to stay in the hotels closer
to the
CTICC. However the delegate needs to decide what will work best for
him/her.
As far as adding anything to our website : We had a budget to adhere to
as we outsource all our website work . The FOSS4G2008 webpages on the
PeopleSA site are completed and we are not planning any additions.
Regarding the FOSS4G2008 website , Gavin and Graeme are in charge of
that.
Have a great day
Karryn

Hi Karryn and LOC
Thanks, will follow up with Graeme and Gavin as the main website page
has not been changing.
On the pictures:
I understand the issues of avoiding duplication, however we have to
admit the current FOSS4G2008 landing page is not as alive as it could
be
... the pictures I need would be to:
- add some life to our FOSS4G2008 first page... it has absolutely
nothing right now even simple pictures of the Cape... or a happy bunch
of ppl at a workshop!
- use in creating banners for marketing for our site and with media
partners and other professional sites.
- to use in the marketing material we propose to produce... flyers,
brochures etc.
Maybe check the previous years to understand what i'm getting at
http://www.foss4g2007.org/ and http://www.foss4g2006.org/
There's definitely no need to reproduce accommodation/tours packages
info I doubt a few duplicate pictures in a banner would confuse anyone
unless there's copyright issues and we have to source our own? I
personally feel a an accommodation and tours page on the main website
that places links to the specific landing pages hosted by People SA
would not hurt to give a consolidated and easy to follow route for
all.
As it is now I really also don't understand why this information falls
under "announcements" way down at the bottom of the page?? And not at
the side with rest of Conference info... Graeme and Gavin?/ Help who
is
updating the site and how can we add value to the look and feel and
current contents??
Please may we get that distance from ICC info added to
Accommodation.... is this possible? Is it coming?
Thanks
Best Regards,
Daina

Hi Daina ,
As far as I am aware , Graeme and Gavin have been tasked with the
updating
Of the webpages . (Not sure if that has changed)
All the information on places to visit in Cape Town are advertised on
the
PeopleSA site. Follow the link on the FOSS42008 webpage to the
PeopleSA
website and it is all there. Pictures , information , possible tours ,
accommodation packages etc. Initially it was advertised on the
FOSS42008
website as well.
We had feedback that duplication was not the way to go. As PeopleSA
researched and found the relevant information and pictures and was
tasked
with giving the delegates a one stop seamless experience of booking
preferred accommodation,
tours , as well as collection of all payments for these activities it
made
sense that this was advertised on our site.
Have a great day.
Regards
Karryn

Hi LOC,
please check the communications page on the wiki... I've placed what i
can and working on it and the rest of the marketing tasks.. will place
the announcements planned on the relevat page asap... hopefully by Fri
then we can all see whats planned and where we are. On the requests to
individuals/through websites... do we all want a basic email request?
I
will draft one that i will send to the sites/contact i can get to and
also place on annoucement page
http://wiki.osgeo.org/wiki/FOSS4G2008_Communication
And a call for marketing support support is still very open!
P.S. Who is updating the Foss4G2008 landing page??? Please update it
... it currently has a misleading deadline for call for pa[pers... we
wouldn't want anyone to miss the deadline!! Or how can I help edit it.
Please place the following on that first page and where links are
available then the correct link to the other pages e.g. to the
workshops
and labs page or info on abstractes page etc.

30 April 2008: Deadline for submission of proposals for workshops and
labs
12 May 2008: Deadline for submission of abstracts
17 June 2008: Notification of acceptance of abstracts
18 August 2008: Deadline for submission of presentation / papers for
the proceedings
1 September 2008:Deadline for submission of posters

Late registration opens September 16 - September 29 2008
On-site registration opens September 29 2008
Conference Dates September 29 - October 3 2008
Request: Anyone with photos we can use for the webiste... i.e. those
of
Cape Town (places of interest), of the ICC and perhaps potetial
technical visit places if we have.. and other interesting pictures of
things to do, food to eat, places to stay . etc .. anything for that
"exciting" first landing page we need to have?? HELP PLEASE! People SA
you look like you have quite soe great ones on your page... any chance
we can use some of these on the main page?
Also People SA- Petro/Karryn: may we have distance info attached to
the
proposed hotels.. i.e. walking/driving to the arious acommodation.. it
will make selection easier for those of us not from the Cape.
Thanks
daina
