Same here - 3b - I like because it is clean and simple.  I'm not sure  
I recognised the opera house at first site - more thought of a  
pineapple, so I wonder about Shoaib's question above too.

I also like 3a and 3b because all the text is virtually inside of the  
rest of the logo - so it's nice and rectangular to manage.

I think that 4a can get too busy - Is it FOSS4G or Sydney or  
Australia?  A bit too much packed into one I feel.
