Hello,

I'd like to introduce Amy Gao to this group. I met Amy last week at
the FOSS4G-NA conference - she lives and works in the Washington DC
area. She expressed an interest in helping with the FOSS4G 2012
effort in any way she could. Amy is a native Chinese speaker, and I
thought she might be able to help facilitate communication between the
organizing committee and others within the OSGeo community.

Ang Gao, could you suggest a way that Amy might be able to help with
the effort? If you have a list on your side that she could subscribe
too, it might be a good way for her to get involved.

Amy, I cannot provide details on the various lists & people copied
here - but I'm hoping that someone else copied here can help make
introductions. Can someone describe the purpose of the
conference_dev at lists.osgeo.org and foss4g2012 at lists.osgeo.org and
suggest if Amy should sign up for either/both?

Thanks,
Tim

> We are sorry about our slow progress in comparison with the timeline that we set up in February. The current problem is caused by the delay of our online conference management system. About two months ago, we made a contract with a company for system development. But our testing on this system showed that there were some problems on the payment part in registry system, and the abstract submission system also did not run well. For safety, we have to postpone the registry and call for papers.

> (1) We have signed the contract with Beijing Conference Center to be the conference venue.(Late February)
> (2) We negotiated with Beijing Conference Center and achieved an about 10% discount on the hotel (4~5 star level) for the participants who pay through the payment system set up by LOC. (Late February)
> (3) The conference committees have been established (Middle March)
> (4) We have got three Chinese sponsors, including Supermap, LREIS, CAS. And several others are under contacting.
> (5) About 40% of OSGeo-Live Docs have been translated into Chinese to promote OSGeo software in China. Both English and Chinese versions are expected to be handed out in FOSS4G 2012.
> (6) The Foreign Liaison Office of Chinese Academy of Sciences has granted LOC to invite foreign participants. (Early April)
> (7) We had a meeting with Prof. John P. Wilson, the editor-in-chief of TGIS on 12th April, and he would continue to support FOSS4G-2012 academic paper publishing (Thank Kobben and Helena for their past works).
> By the way, Dr. Ntin-Tripathi, the editor-in-chief of International Journal of Geoinformatics, has also agreed to support one special issue. He will be in Beijing in early May, and we can further fix the details.
> (8) We will update the information of keynote speakers to foss4g 2012 website soon.
