[foss4g2014] promotion and publicity plans

I support PDX. Let others learn what it is. There are numerous places name Portland, in the US and abroad, but only one PDX. It is a moniker widely used by Portlanders to identify things related to the city. It gives us a link to PSU (pdx.edu) and the Port of Portland (the international airport bearing that identifier). While more syllables, I find it easier to say than Portland.
How are we seen by outsiders? One vote: a bus driver in Victoria, BC told me he wanted to vacation in Portland for its beer and bikes. Though we shouldn't encourage them at the same time.

I think Portland, since no one else knows what PDX stands for.
Other themes includes Roses and Bridges.
Bridges might be an interesting theme, we could somehow link it to bridging the gap between COTS software, bridging communities of practice, bridging skill sets, all sorts of possibilities...

I'd like to brainstorm ideas about promoting FOSS4G 2014.
What should our theme be? There could be a serious theme pertaining
to content (I've heard user focus suggested) as well as a fun theme
pertaining to location/identity. Nottingham's Robin Hood theme worked
very well for the location/identify theme.
What makes Portland soo Portland? Bikes? Put a bird on it? Trees?
Smallest park in the world (I'm told this is no longer true or
contested)? What else?
Are we Portland or PDX?
Once we collect some of this information, then we can craft it into
press releases, promotional videos, etc.
What are your thoughts?
Eli
