There is no difference in managed versus unmanaged for the functionality
side of things, performance should be the same as well.
If you have used Studio to load the SHP files, it might do something to
the data, eg. convert it to SDF, build bounds, set coordsys etc.
I suspect that the FeatureSource is missing some coordinate system
information.
