In my case this is what I did:
in php.ini added this line, in extensions section:
extension=/usr/lib/php5/20090626+lfs/php_mapscript.so

The path of php_mapscript.so can change. Just use "*sudo find / -name
'php_mapscript.so*'" to find the exact path!
