So how should people:
1)Get gdal into a linux distro (where packaging standards require the
ability to have multiple versions of the same library, but of different
SONAME).
2)Ensure that they are using the same API as the binary shared library?
I would like to see standard shared library support. Is there are good
reason NOT to use it (of course, the library version does not have to
correspond to the software version anyway, look at gconf ;-)).
