The MODIS reproject tool is only able to read ISIN, not SIN.
"The MODIS Level-3 Land products are generated by the MODIS Adaptive
Processing System (MODAPS), located at the NASA Goddard Space Flight
Center, as gridded output in the Integerized Sinusoidal (ISIN) projection.
The ISIN projection is unique to the MODIS land products, analogous to the
Sinusoidal projection except that the ISIN projection is centered about 0°
longitude and special coefficients are used to flatten the ellipsoid. The
ISIN projection was devised for the Level-3+ products because it employs a
tessellation scheme, efficient organization, and hierarchical management of
the multi-resolution data acquired by the MODIS sensor.
