[Gdal-dev] how to create a new shapefile with ogr?

Hello to all,
	I'm working for an exam, and I'm using ogr for implementing a simple overlay 
operator. I'm working with shapefile, and now i have to create a new one with 
the resulting feature. I have problem using the 
ogrDataSource = OGRSFDriverRegistrar::Open( dirname, true ) ;
if the dirname is a directory (and not a .shp) i have a segmentation faults!
Any Idea?
