This is a recurring subject on the GDAL list. You can search the list
archive to follow the discussion, or i can save you the effort and simply
point to:

Be advised these .sln/.vcproj files are not part of the core GDAL, and not
maintained by the GDAL folks, so they are not supported nor necessarily kept
up to date.
Personally, i find it much more useful to build GDAL in an IDE which lets me
browse through the source with a click or two, and switch between debug and
release builds without editing any files.

Does anyone have VC.NET 2003 project files for GDAL? Make files are a
nightmare. I've contemplated trying to create a project file myself, but I
figured if someone had already done it and was nice enough to share, that
I'd take advantage of that.
