[Gdal-dev] color table in ESRI BIL format

Is it possible to translate an ESRI BIL file with an associated ASCII 
color table (.clr file) to other GDAL-supported formats and keep the 
color table information? It seems that color information gets lost in 
this case (ColorInterp=undefined, note that GDAL supports color tables 
with ESRI Binary Grids). If this is not directly possible, is there a 
way to do it in steps?
