=> Radesh,
=>
=> I assume I spoke to you briefly about this at the MUM/OSGIS meeting? There
=> is a fellow from ... somewhere in Alaska ... who has started work on this.
=> He, you and I should coordinate on this to avoid undue rework.
=>
=> Digging through my old email, I find I have an email from a Jay Cable at
=> "gi.alaska.edu" which appears to be the Geophystical Institute at the
=> University of Alaska in Fairbanks. I think the fellow I talked to at MUM/OSGIS
=> was either him, or perhaps a co-worker.
=>
=> I'm cc:ing Jay to bring us together, though he might already be on the list.
=>
=> After soom discussion last week, I have come to the conclusion that SDE
=> has explicit tiling so we should initially tie directly into that. So that
=> means we just need to properly describe the the tile size and implement
=> IReadBlock().
=>
=> Once the "full resolution" mode is working properly we can add the ability
=> to read from overviews properly. This mostly involves wrapping them in
=> raster band objects as well. So (at least without the overview mode) the
=> existing GDAL Driver Implementors guide should work pretty well.
I think I am the fellow who spoke to you about this.
I have done some basic work on adding SDE Raster support to GDAL, but only
at a pretty rudimentary level - just working with the c api for sde to
write some test programs to extract metadata and tiles from arcSDE.
I was hoping to start work on this in earnest later this week.
Radesh - how much work/how far have you gotten with this?
Regards,
-Jay Cable
