[Gdal-dev] optimum overview settings?

That was badly worded, no wonder it doesn't compute. What I'm trying to 
discover is where is the balance point between improving performance by 
adding more overviews is outweighed by the gain in storage requirements, 
and thereby time to transfer to/from disk.

Maybe there just isn't one, and I'm chasing wil'o'wisps.
