I'm using Fedore Core 2... I don't know the answers to the other
questions...

However, this has become something of a non-issue for me right now - I
wanted the python support so that I could use gdal_merge.py to build an
overview layer of my big jpeg-2000 tileset. However, I have gotten
around this by using mapserver with a high-res output (25,000 pizels
square) and then making up a world file and and converting the output
.png file to another jpeg-2000 which I'm now using for the overview
layer. This worked quite nicely, takes a few hours of processing, but
it's done.

Perhaps we can just ignore this issue, at least until someone else runs
into the problem.

Later,
Chris
