Keep in mind if you install GEOS 2.x you'll need to upgrade to postgis 0.9.0 or keep two versions of GEOS installed.

Martin,

GDAL requires GEOS 2.0 or newer if you want GEOS support.  The GEOS source
is not part of GDAL so you need to pre-build and install GEOS if you
want to configure GDAL with it.   I don't know if PostGIS is using
GEOS 2.0 yet or not. I haven't actually tried to GEOS enable my PostGIS
installation yet.
