[Gdal-dev] Creating VRT from TILEINDEX?

Hi everyone. 

I have used gdaltindex successfully to be able to show my images in 
mapserver.  What I'd like to do is to be able to treat the entire image 
set as a single virtual image so that I can use the GDAL library to 
manipulate it more easily.

Is there a way to take the .shp file created by gdaltindex (or perhaps the 
output from ogrinfo) and create a VRT file?
