Hi list,
this is to advertise for a research position about "automated image processing chains", at the CSIR - Meraka Institute, Tshwane (Pretoria), South Africa.
the position is available from January 2006. The duration is minimum one year, preferably three years.
AIMS:
- research image processing techniques for remote sensing data sets (aerial, satellite)
- implement adaptable, self-describing automatic image/vector processes
- evaluate domain needs/queries automatically and construct relevant data flows
- use standards and unify the processes (OGC services, ISO), in the context of the Sensor Web Enablement
- assess image quality
- integrate with other geographic information
- build on top of existing open source software (OSSIM, GDAL, POSTGIS, GEOTOOLS, GEOSERVER, MAPSERVER)
SKILLS NEEDED:
- at least 2 years of experience in image processing
- applied mathematics : feature detection and matching, optimization, geometry, statistics
- remote sensing skills : geometric/radiometric image correction, photogrammetry, geography basics
- good knowledge of OGC specifications is a plus
- object oriented software design, C++ (Java and Python)
note: preference will be given to experienced OSSIM developers.
CONTEXT:
-the researcher will be integrated into a team of remote sensing and image processing specialists
-he will answer information needs from the scientific, industrial and governmental communities
-he will have a priviledged access to satellite data sources
-he will participate in scientific projects within the Meraka Institute and the CSIR (Council for Scientific and Industrial Research)
