[Gdal-dev] GDAL 1.4.0 Beta 1 Released

Folks,

I have issued Beta 1 tar files for GDAL 1.4.0 at:

   http://www.gdal.org/dl/gdal-1.4.0beta1.tar.gz
   http://www.gdal.org/dl/gdal140beta1.zip

Please give them a try and provide feedback.

My hope is to have a beta2 late this week or early next week.  And
then a "RC 1" on the 19th, hopefully soon accepted as the 1.4.0 release.
All pending feedback and opinions of the PSC of course.
