[Gdal-dev] symlinks in debian package

Hi,

I'm just trying to compile gpsdrive and link it against gdal. In the 
Makefile.am (of gpsdrive) there currently is a dependency against gdal1.3.1.l 
But I get some complaints from gpsdrive-users which only have gdal (debian 
stable i think) installed. So my Idea was to change the dependency to gdal 
and have a symlink to always point to the most recent version of gdal.
Does anyone see a chance that the gdal-debian packages can contain these 
links?
