Frank,

I observed that the -summary flag is gone in 'ogrinfo'.
It would be VERY useful to display some metadata:

Currently:
 ogrinfo  pollo_pat.shp
 INFO: Open of `pollo_pat.shp'
 using driver `ESRI Shapefile' successful.
 1: pollo_pat (Point)

Desired:
 ogrinfo  pollo_pat.shp
 INFO: Open of `pollo_pat.shp'
 using driver `ESRI Shapefile' successful.
 Extent: (1619353.660000, 5061907.140000) - (1697751.000000, 5113358.260000)
 Layer SRS WKT:
 PROJCS["Transverse Mercator",
    GEOGCS["international",
        DATUM["Monte_Mario",
            SPHEROID["international",6378388,297],
            TOWGS84[-104.1,-49.1,-9.9,0.971,-2.917,0.714,-11.68]],
        PRIMEM["Greenwich",0],
        UNIT["degree",0.0174532925199433]],
    PROJECTION["Transverse_Mercator"],
    PARAMETER["latitude_of_origin",0],
    PARAMETER["central_meridian",9],
    PARAMETER["scale_factor",0.9996],
    PARAMETER["false_easting",1500000],
    PARAMETER["false_northing",0],
    UNIT["meter",1]]
 1: pollo_pat (Point)

I know, that things are printed when adding the layer name,
but then I get hundreds of lines (most of these info I don't
want to know):

 ogrinfo  pollo_pat.shp pollo_pat | wc -l
 291

Do you see a chance to modify the standard output?

thanks

 Markus
