[Gdal-dev] Google earth + GDAL

Hi Guillaume,

That looks like an interesting idea.

Google Earth KML Basic documents, can be mapped as basic GIS objects, or more likely the other way around:

	Point -> Placemarks
	Lines -> Paths
	Polygons -> Polygons
	Raster Image -> GroundOverlays

And whatever else you need just customize it. It's XML!

But the purpose of this would be just visualization, Am I right?

By the way, I tried to add some geotiff on Google Earth and it didn't work right. That is pointing me back to my original question. It should work better in the commercial version of GE and that should be the one that uses GDAL. I guess.

Best regards,

Ivan

I do not answer the question, but I wish to discuss a development request
related to the subject:

Is it possible to see KML (http://earth.google.com/kml/) being implemented
in OGR formats (http://www.gdal.org/ogr/ogr_formats.html) ?

This way, it would be very simple to use ogr2ogr
(http://www.gdal.org/ogr/ogr2ogr.html) to produce GE objects.

Thanks,
Guillaume.
