Yves,

I think r.out.gdal writes out color rules metadata (which is overflowing),
but I think these color rules metadata items are only used by QGIS.  I don't
know if r.out.gdal is also attempting to write a color table or not.  I also
don't know if the data is 8bit or not.  So it is hard for me to say.
