Hi again,
you better look twice!
For all who are interested in a solution:
ogrinfo -ro PG:'host=myhost user=postgis dbname=mydb password=mypw'
works perfectly!
Just a hint: I couldn't find any reference to the 'password' option
in the postgres driver documentation (drv_pg.html).
