Downloaded 1.4.1 again (there was some web caching going on [probably
from when I downloaded this AM], so I had to make sure this was the new
one), built / installed from source.  Works now:

$ gdalinfo --version
GDAL 1.4.1.0, released 2007/04/09
$ gdal-config --version
1.4.1
