[gdal-dev] GDAL/OGR 1.4.4 Release Candidate 1

All,

GDAL 1.4.4-RC1 has now been released for review.

Two major bugs were fixed in this release:

  - 1.4.3 broke ABI compatibility, which potentially broke plugin  
modules

  - internal libtiff was updated to apply numerous improvements
     - http://trac.osgeo.org/gdal/ticket/1965
     - http://trac.osgeo.org/gdal/ticket/1948

This release also closes 13 other tickets:

Please review and test this release candidate, and if no significant  
issues are found, I move that we promote it to the final release on  
Tuesday afternoon (Nov 27th).
