The /Library/frameworks one should be the correct python 2.5.

Have you upgraded your system a few times from before 10.3?  The old  
default tcsh init files might interfere with the bash init files (it's  
been so long, but I think it happened to me).  I can't remember what  
these files are.

Or maybe something is simply overriding PATH in .bash_profile after  
the python path is added.
