[Gdal-dev] /usr/local/share/gdal - OK in 1.4.1, gone from 1.5.1 ?!

Hi,

On Slackware 12.0 Linux.
"./configure make make install" of gdal-1.4.1 puts data into
/usr/local/share/gdal
With gdal-1.5.1 all the data is put into /usr/local/share

I can see that configure.in has the comment:
"dnl
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
dnl If datadir is set to @prefix@/share, the modify it to be 
dnl @prefix@/share/gdal.  I wish we could default this.
dnl
---------------------------------------------------------------------------"

Is the different behaviour of 1.5.1 compared with 1.4.1 a bug or a feature ?
What ./configure option should I give to 1.5.1 to have all data put into
/usr/local/share/gdal ?
