[gdal-dev] SDTS Coordinate System

Hi list,

     I am trying to find the elevation values from a given SDTS Fileset.
Although I am able to extract the elevation values for a given X,Y I am not
sure as how one could extract them for a given Latitude , Longitude. A
typical grand canyon SDTS transfer contains the following metadata

UPPER LEFT X=387335.000
UPPER LEFT Y=3998335.500
LOWER RIGHT X=398735.000
LOWER RIGHT Y=3984385.500
WEST LONGITUDE=112° 15' 07.12" W
NORTH LATITUDE=36° 07' 34.45" N
EAST LONGITUDE=112° 07' 24.71" W
SOUTH LATITUDE=35° 59' 57.24" N
COVERED AREA=61.4 sq mi
NUM COLUMNS=381
NUM ROWS=466
PIXEL WIDTH=30 meters
PIXEL HEIGHT=30 meters

      The other thing that I am unable to understand is the UPPER LEFT X,
UPPER LEFT Y. What kind of coordinate system is this ?
