What is the last version of GDAL you mean that included GRIB support?
I don't recall GRIB support in any of 1.5.0, 1.5.1 and 1.5.2.

GRIB support (frmts/grib directory) is available in SVN trunk

In February 2008, grib module was moved from spike [1] to trunk:
