thanks for your reply.

I have already properly set the GDAL_DATA var :(. (And the cited file
ecw_cs.wkt is present there)
Here's why I investigated for a Proj4 responsability.

Which type of permissions problems do you think should be involved? (I'm
using Windows Vista and GDAL_DATA links to a simple folder C:\work\gdal...
As an instance I know that Vista may introduce some problems in several
circumstances when working with C:\ProgramFiles... Moreover I have disabled
User Account Control some months ago...)

Thanks a lot. I will narrow my search for the cause of the problem.
