[gdal-dev] Geotiffs and setstatistics

Hello,
Does the tiff driver support the SetStatistics function? I work with  
~4GB tiff files and it takes a significant time to call  
ComputeStatistics. The statistics are seemingly not cached in the meta  
data or the Xml file even if the file is opened as a PAM dataset.

Also, the bApproxOK option in computestatistics does not seem to obey  
the NoDataValue. I also get different results for the statistics if I  
just made the overviews or already had them.
