[gdal-dev] gdal_merge vs gdalwarp for mosaicking

Hi,

If I need to be able to mosaic tiles together but do not need to change the
projection, then I can run gdal_merge which will run faster than gdalwarp.
My question is their any advantage to running gdalwarp as far as:
1.) data quality
2.) scalability: I will be mosaicking many gigabytes (5GB-100GB) worth of
tiles together will gdal_merge be able to handle this?
