[gdal-dev] ESRI Binary .FLT files

Hi All:

Looking to import the ESRI Binary Float format (.flt with .hdr).
My search has come up with the need to add the 
nbits 32   to the .hdr file (with, perhaps, pixeltype float)

I'm trying to use dataset = gdal.open(fltfile, readonly)

Is the .FLT format supported (or in a different method)?
