Hello,
I would like to ask whether it is possible to include a program to merge vector
files just like gdal_merge.py

There, users discussed the import of a folder with shapefiles into grass for
generating a mosaik. I think this could be of use for many users.

It would be nice if this could get included into the GDAL/OGR distribution.
