It *feels* like you haven't looked as hard as you could.

If you want to know about extracting information from a GDAL supported
raster file programmatically review the GDAL API Tutorial at:

   http://www.gdal.org/gdal_tutorial.html

This also applies to Python/C#/perl/etc
