[gdal-dev] NITF Jpeg 2000 read support for GeoEye-1

hi list,

I have GeoEye-1 data in NITF 2.1 with Jpeg 2000 compression, that needs
to be viewed in OpenEV. I need to build gdal Jpeg 2000 read support.

Kakadu doesn't seem to be suitable as we need to redistribute software
(for non-commercial use). Kakadu needs each end user to purchase
license. Please correct me if I am wrong.

What are the other choices, JP2ECW or JP2MrSID? I downloaded JP2ECW
source. Its Windows project files are rather old (MS VC6).
Would someone share your build experience?  I need to build on Windows
(compiler is Visual Studio 2005/2008) and Linux.
