I think you are right. After another subdivision, both halves did process
properly.

Looking for artefacts in the data, I noted that there is a very unnatural
drop at the coastline that also produced a bunch of contours where there
should be none. Probably the coastline is some kind of "cliff" in the data.
Do you think this could be responsible?

Being a GIS amateur: Is there a way to get the sea level to 0 and eliminate
this weird "cliff" along the coastline?
