Sounds like a good plan.

I'm just a bit concerned about the recent report of "Black lines across images 
using GDAL 1.7.2 and above". Would be nice to solve this if this is confirmed, 
but for now, as we have no elements to analyze and reproduce, we cannot really 
do anything.
