gdalinfo doesn't give me any information about nodata, even after a 

gdal_translate -of GTiff -co "PROFILE=GeoTIFF" -co "INTERLEAVE=PIXEL" -co
"COMPRESS=JPEG" -a_nodata 0 orthocol.tif ../orthocol0.tif
