[gdal-dev] divide a big shape file using ogr2ogr

Ahmet,

If you want to divide the shapefile to reduce file size or the number of
features, use the -where option. Restrict the features copied to the new
shapefile by specifying the range of FIDs.
Ex: ogr2ogr -where "FID >= 0 and FID < 1000" dst.shp src.shp
