The dxfdwg directory from http://trac.osgeo.org/gdal/browser/spike/dxfdwg ?
This is really unsupported stuff now. Frank Warmerdam has written a new DWG
driver in GDAL 1.9.0 that relies on the Teigha libraries. See
http://gdal.org/ogr/drv_dwg.html . So I'd suggest you to upgrade to 1.9.0
