[gdal-dev] How to use projection of a shapefile in order to have a better view in OpenGL

Dear reader  
In the attached file, I have included a program that shows a polygon .shp in
OpenGL. My problem is after finishing the work I found that the layer, is
not shown as it is shown in the ArcGIS or global mapper. I mean it seems
that the layer is stretched.  
So two questions rose up for me: 

Can using projection of the layer help me? How? I mean how can I apply the
projection of layer to OpenGL? 

As you see the OpenGL is using an ortographic projection (glOrtho). Do you
think using (glFustrum) instead will solve my problem and I can ignore
projection of layer?
